Dangers of cyberbullying

Cyberbullying damages young people's self-confidence and mental health. Victims often experience significant stress, anxiety, and sadness due to the constant stream of hurtful messages. This can lead to depressive feelings and persistent low self-esteem.

Victims of cyberbullying often feel alone. Out of shame or fear, they withdraw and avoid contact with peers. This loneliness can negatively impact their social development and self-confidence. Moreover, victims are sometimes shunned by friends who fear becoming targets themselves, further exacerbating their isolation.

Online bullying doesn't stop after school. It can continue at any time via phone or computer – even at night and on weekends. Victims get no break; the nasty messages can also arrive at home. This constant threat causes a great deal of stress and makes it difficult for young people to calm down.

What's posted online can be seen by many people. Hurtful messages or photos can be shared incredibly quickly and reach a large audience. This widespread distribution increases the victim's shame. Moreover, painful posts and images often remain online, meaning the humiliation doesn't simply disappear.

Cyberbullying often occurs outside the sight of parents and teachers. It takes place on smartphones and social media, so adults don't always notice it. Victims are afraid to talk about it out of shame or fear, so the problem remains hidden. Bullies can also remain anonymous, making intervention even more difficult.
